New Kent County has a rich and storied history dating back to 1654. The area has seen tremendous growth over the past two decades and is one of the fastest growing counties in the Commonwealth. While technically a part of the Richmond Metropolitan area, New Kent remains a rural community of just 22,000 citizens. The contrast of rural and urban lies at the heart of New Kent County's future, and this Strategic Plan is intended to provide a long-term vision to help the County grow without sacrificing its overall character and quality of life its citizens enjoy. The Envision New Kent County Strategic Plan will be purposeful and specific, creating a broad vision based on long-term goals and priorities.
