Our History

Hill Studio was established as a small business and professional corporation in 1988. Our main office is in an historic building in downtown Roanoke, Virginia in the heart of Southwest Virginia and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our firm started with five employees; today, we have grown to fully diversified staff that typically ranges from twenty to twenty-five employees. In 2008, we established a branch office in Greenville, South Carolina and expanded our design services to include specialty workforce and elderly housing.

Over our twenty-year history, our firm has been committed to providing design excellence to communities desiring to sustain or create a special sense of place. We take extreme pride in our ability to collaboratively combine diverse skills and disciplines in community planning, landscape architecture, architecture, and historic preservation to develop community plans, places, and facilities that are unique and respectful of site context, the built environment, and the surrounding landscape.

Our demonstrated success in sustaining and creating wonderful places is visible throughout the many communities in Virginia, the southeastern United States, as well as internationally.
